Joann Seery quickly learned that traditional marketing and advertising was often too expensive and ineffective when she started her first business, Serious Business Solutions. That is when she learned to develop her networking skills and began to grow her business exclusively through referrals and word of mouth.

In November of 2003, Joann purchased the BNI Hawaii franchise. Here in the state, the region has grown from 4 chapters and 60 members to over 23 chapters with over 550 members on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.

Her latest business is the Referral Institute. The Referral Institute is a training and consulting company that teaches business professionals throughout the world how to harness the power of word-of-mouth marketing to drive sales for fast, sustainable business growth.
